  22. I bought this from someone on the during the summer and since
  23. have bought a 129X Toadfile.  Since I have the Toadfile I don't
  24. need the Supra anymore.

  26. It does not have the clock chip but it is full of 20 megs
  27. PD software.

  60. I have just got hold of my 1040 STE (Friday) and thought the
  61. Net might be interested in some facts, which should be well known.
  62. If they are or not... Well.. Read the following:

  64. What it has
  65.  
  66.         - Smooth one-pixel scrolling in hardware
  67.         - Two 8-bit D/A-converters for stereo sound
  68.         - RCA stereo output
  69.         - Blitter (thanks guys!)
  70.         - Six (6) joystick ports [Atari BUSINESS Computer, ha!]
  71.         - A palette of 4096 colors. almost useless with the RF-modulator
  72.  
  73. My first impression is that it could have been better. Much better.
  74. Sure the scrolling is impressing. But the sound... Nah, I've heard
  75. better. The future can't be playing raw sampled sound -- takes too
  76. much memory.

  78. Along on the language disk with handwritten label that follow are two
  79. different demos, apparently written with Turbo C 1.1 (Yes, I've
  80. disassembled them. I had to!) that shows the new capabilities.
  81. Why not put them together, it would be more impressing!

  83. The sound demo sounds good -- but the samplings are boring and really
  84. not that good.  You could have done better!
  85.  
  86. The scrolling demo consists of nine pictures in pattern of 3 times 3
  87. screen where you can scroll softly to any point by moving the mouse.

  91. But, listen now Atari, a large BUT.  *No* documentation about the
  92. new chips followed.  Not even a list of adresses, not even a little
  93. "read.me" on the language disk!
  94. Why?  Don't you want people to use these new features, just the
  95. software houses, or what?

  167. Does anyone know of any devices that allow the ST to use gpib/ieee-488
  168. equipment?  I remember hearing of one that plugged into the cartridge
  169. port but I couldn't remember the company/address.  Also, I need information
  170. on the gpib interface itself.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  185. Since a deal for a compleye hard drive set-up fell through..
  186. I am now entering the world of home brew HD.
  187. basically everyone has suggested that I get the ICD Host Adaptor so that is
  188. settled.
  189. 1) Can I hook up any SCSI drive to this adaptor(such as the N drives from
  190. Seagate)
  191.  
  192. 2) What Controller card apart from the adaptec 4070 and 4000(a) work with
  193. standard HD mechs(non scsi). IS there a WD, Xebec or possible OMTI substitution
  194.  
  195. 3) What turns out to be faster, an N series drive or a controller/HD combo.
  196.  
  197. 4) Can someone post all the ram expansion boards out for the ST that allow
  198. for either 256k drams or 1 megabits.

  213. Scott Settlemier mentioned that his drive (floppy a:, right?) keeps
  214. spinning after boot up.

  216. I have a vague memory that someone mentioned that this was a bug in TOS
  217. (that happens when autobooting from HD) and that it was fixed in TOS v1.4.
  218.  
  219. The way that I get around this problem is to access the drive in my
  220. profile.  So that when msh comes up the drive is read and stops spinning
  221. after the read.  I just do a "ls a:\" at the end of my profile.
  222.  
  223. I know that this is pretty Kludgy, is there another fix/workaround?

  253. in Vancouver, British Columbia) yet.
